Sculpture Celebration 2011 Preview

 

Plan now to participate in our 26th Annual Sculpture Celebration September 10, 2011 IN A NEW LOCATION -- the lovely T.H. Broyhill Walking Park, located at 945 Lakewood Street (off Norwood Street) in Lenoir.  Visit this website for photos and information about this park.

 

A prospectus and registration form will be uploaded in mid-summer; sculptors from everywhere are encouraged to participate.

 

IMPORTANT DELIVERY INFORMATION:  Large sculptures requiring a crane must be delivered Friday 9/9/11 10am-7pm (a crane will be on site); smaller sculptures can arrive either Friday or between 7am-9am Saturday 9/10/11 prior to beginning of judging.

 

We have elected to discontinue offering the Caldwell Public Art Installation Award, in favor of adding this prize money (now over $10,000!) to the pot of awards for Sculpture Celebration.

In addition, Tri-State Sculptors will be hosting their annual conference here in Lenoir at the same time as Sculpture Celebration!

Judge:  Ken Rollins, Interim Executive Director, Tampa Museum of Art

  Over a thirty-year career, Ken Rollins served as Executive Director of art museums in Florida: The Deland Museum of Art, Deland; the Polk Museum of Art, Lakeland; the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, Largo; and currently Interim Executive Director of the Tampa Museum of Art.  Each museum achieved significant success under his leadership.

  A 1964 charter class graduate of the University of South Florida in liberal arts, Rollins received a Masters degree in Ceramics/Sculpture from the University of Tennessee in 1973 and is a graduate of the Museum Management Institute, University of California at Berkeley.  He has been an instructor in ceramics and design at the University of Tennessee and Daytona Beach Community College. 

  As Executive Director of the Polk Museum and The Gulf Coast Museum, Rollins led their development efforts and construction of museum facilities.  Most recently, he led the Tampa Museum of Art through a three-year period of development, resulting in a new 66,000 square foot building designed by architect Stanley Saitowitz of San Francisco. 

  Rollins provided statewide leadership on two separate occasions as President of the Florida Art Museum Directors Association, as Chairman of the Florida Association of Museums Foundation, and served numerous times as a grant review panelist for the Florida Arts Council.  For three years, he was on the Executive Board of the Southeastern Museums Conference. 

  Rollins is also a Museum Assessment and Accreditation Consultant for the American Association for Museums, and most recently has served on the Boards of the Clearwater Arts Foundation, CreativeTampaBay and the National Society of Arts and Letters Advisory Board.

  In 2004, he was honored with the Florida Association of Museums Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2006, he was presented with the Florida Art Museum Directors Association Lifetime Achievement Award.
