LORI DIERDORF, GRAPHITE PORTRAITURE

Billy Holliday by Lori Dierdorf
Lori Dierdorf is a self-taught graphite portrait artist. She draws portraits of historical and famous personalities. She has been drawing all her life, and gets most of her inspiration from her sister, Melanie, who always encouraged her to pursue her art. Lori started out cartooning at a very young age and progressed into portraits. She hopes you will enjoy them as much as she has enjoyed creating them.

KAREN KALETA - WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY

As a freelance writer and photographer, an avid Nature and Wildlife supporter, and a member of The North American Nature Photography Association, I spend the majority of my time focused on the wildlife and natural wonders abundant in this part of the country. Concerned with our rapidly vanishing native plants and wildlife, it is my desire to document and record as much of this area as I can, in an effort to bring to light the importance of conservation and preservation of land andd species alike. I am a National Wildlife Habitat Steward where I live on 10 mountainous acres appropriately named Earth Magic, which is also a NWF Certified Backyard Habitat. As an organic/biodynamic gardener specializing in herbs, and a Master Gardener for the state of North Carolina, you will find a great deal of my work revolves around the garden, the many surrounding National forests and the wildlife of Western North Carolina, Tennessee and Northeastern Georgia to include much of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
I began my journey into photography in the early 70's covering sports events in Atlanta, as well as doing wedding and portrait photography working mostly in natural settings vs. in the studio for a more natural feel, but it was my love of the great outdoors that led me to focus the majority of my work on the natural world. I have written for such publications as The Herb Companion, Veggie Life, Crafts Magazine and Better Homes and Gardens.
I continue to work with portraits, as well as residential, assignment and event coverage photography, which rounds out my portfolio.
In 2009 I was chosen as one of the 45 selected juried works out of a competition of 450 nationwide submitted entries for "American Art Today" at the Bascom Art Center in Highlands, NC - October through December 2009 for my photographic watercolor style.
