The Caldwell Arts Council periodically provides workshops such as Harmonica by Charlie Story of Harmonikidz, face jugs, jewelry-making, One-Stroke painting, soap making, creatively folded paper art books with secret writing spaces, origami, watercolor painting and many others. And we can help you locate workshops in our area teaching what you want to learn.

March 11, March 25, April 8, April 22 (4-part course) - 10am-12noon at Caldwell Arts Council - "Staying On Course" with Wyn Flo - A course that helps the serious artist stay focused through encouraging critiques and coaching. Do you have a project, long put off? Always wanted to write a book, finsih a picture, present your work to a gallery or just have some support and structure to finish your artistic projects? By creating a personal vision and having a support partner, this fun and supportive class will give you the momentum necessary to complete the projects that have meaning to you. This class will meet at Caldwell Arts Council twice a month (10am-noon) on Thursdays as shown above. The total cost is $60 per person; please call 754-2486 to indicate your commitment to taking this 4-part course now. Please bring your art piece to the first meeting and an item of personal value to you. Wyn Flo is a motivator and an artist. She combines her business and creative sides to inspire serious artists to stay on track and have fun along the way. She is an exhibiting artist, an art coach and has taught "Finding Your Creataive Spirit" at the Hickory Museum and Women's Resources Center.
March 16 - Italian Tiles - (10:00-4:00; $45; Teacher: Sherri Stout) - This is a beautiful quilt from Kaffe Fassett's new book, "Quilt Romance." This is a fairly easy pattern, but has some tricky areas in the alternating pieced blocks. In this class you will learn the "easy" way to make these "tricky" blocks. March 20 - Wrapped Bowl - (10:00-2:00; $25; Teacher: Sherri Stout) - What can you make out of some clothesline, fabric and thread? You got it, a bowl. This technique is easy, fast and fun! An extra bonus is that you use very little fabric. Create a bowl from a specific fabric or use up some of your scraps. Once you have the basic technique you can create bags, boxes and even purses. March 25 - The Rug That Ate My Stash - (10:00-2:00; $25; Teacher: Tod Prescott) Need a throw rug or three? Everyone still loves this class. Need a throw rug or three? Everyone still loves this class. This is a chance to use up some of your stash and your scraps. Join us for this fun class and crochet that stash into a scrappy looking throw rug that will last a long, l- o- n -g time. This rug can be thrown in the washer and dryer. The class is designed with the beginner or experienced crocheter in mind, but you will need to have some experience with a crochet hook. March 27 - Make & Take Pillowcase - (10:00-12:00; $20; Teacher: Tod Prescott) This craft project is fun, quick and easy. Come in and learn how to make a standard size pillow case. It is so much fun to personalize this project by the fabric you choose. This project would also be a fun activity for a parent and child. April 13 - Grandmother's Flower Garden - (10:00-2:00; $30; Teacher: Pam Miller) - There is no better way to usher in spring than by learning how to plant a garden, a Grandmother's Flower Garden. This all-time faborite block will be made entirely by hand, no machines required. This is a great project to carry with you and work on while you're waiting in between appointments and meetings. April 19-23 - Anvil Arts Studio in Linville Falls NC presents "Nothing But Sculpture Workshop" with instructor Bill Brown. April 23 AND 30 - Storm At Sea (2-part class; 10:00-12:00 both days; $50; Teacher: Sherri Stout) - Wendy Mathson's book, "A New Light on Storm At Sea Quilts," will be used for this class along with the Quilters' TRIMplates. These tools will help students create a fun wall hanging. The traditional Storm at Sea block has a fascinating visual effect of curves but is produced from straight seams. May 22 - (11:00am-7:00pm) - Art In The Park, and Something For Everybody! The Lenoir Parks & Recreation Department plans to offer a Festival at the JE Broyhill Park on Ridge Street, featuring a bit of everything that is available here in Caldwell County. Musicians and bands of most every genre will play throughout the day, food vendors and other activities will be available, artists will display and demo their art, cloggers and dance troupes will perform. Spend the day and see what all Caldwell County has to offer! The goal of this event is to showcase the Lenoir Parks & Recreation; this will be their open house & all three facilities will have information booths with their summer programs and events. Local artists are invited to participate and set up all through the park wherever they would like. There is no charge for this event. Artists can stay all day, or just for a couple of hours; if selling items there is a $50 vendor fee).
